Since the establishment of the Community Health Centers on September, 2012, we’ve taken the responsibility to create a comprehensive healthcare system that would improve and enhance the health status of different populations of the Palestinian society by providing high-quality healthcare services for University students and employees and local citizens inside and outside the main university campus. I hope that this page would reflect all the updates of these centers; their services, achievements and their various activities to meet your requirements. Health Community Centers include: Aid and Emergency center, Medical Clinic and Arab Health Center / Al-Bireh.

Aid and Emergency center

Introduction

This center is an outstanding example for the collaboration between the local community – Palestinian Red Crescent – and university community - public services department, students’ council, and students – in order to improve the services provided for the Palestinians. They’ve all committed to provide effective and prompt aid services in cases of emergencies related to human or natural causes. As well as to increase the awareness of students and employees on how to behave in cases of natural disasters and incidences by:

  1. Provision of aid services in cases of emergency at the university.
  2. Collaborating with Nursing department / Health Professions Faculty to provide First aid trainings for students, employees and volunteers.
  3. Planning various events and activities inside and outside the campus to evaluate the readiness of field working staff at the university and to evaluate the awareness of students and employees on how to deal with emergencies.
  4. Supporting the medical clinic in provision of healthcare services.

Future Expectations

  1. Cooperation with Palestinian Red Crescent to provide a permanent Ambulance that is used to transfer the necessary referral cases to hospitals or medical center quickly.
  2. Provide all the facilities at the university with first aid equipments to deal with emergencies effectively and promptly.
  3. Cooperate with specialized authorities such as Palestinian Police and civil defense to train university staff and employees on how to behave in emergencies.

Medical Clinic

Introduction

This clinic offers healthcare services to university students and employees. It is distinguished by its strategic location near the main entrance of health complex to ease the access of students and staff. Moreover, it is equipped with the necessary equipments and devices to help the doctor Aid and emergency officer in provision of healthcare services.

In addition, there will be a constant collaboration with nursing department/ Health Professions Faculty at the university to involve four-year nursing students to volunteer at the clinic.

Future Expectations

  1. Approaching various health insurance companies to join their medical network.
  2. Physical Examination for new students at the beginning of each semester.

Arab Health Center / Al-Bireh

History

The Arab Health Center is a non-profit center that was established at Al-Bireh city in 1984 to provide the highest quality of primary healthcare services for the Palestinian people living in Ramallah and Al-Bireh and the surrounding areas including villages and refugee camps.

Currently, the Arab Health Center/ Al-Quds University is implementing a re-launching plan in order to benefit a wider range of beneficiaries by adopting the highest protocols of patient safety and providing them with advanced primary healthcare services.

The re-launching plan includes:

  1. Building a healthy infrastructure for all the facilities of the center through carrying out all the necessary reparations and maintenance.
  2. Provision of fundamental necessities for the different medical clinics.
  3. Refurbishing of the medical wards including X-Ray, Laboratory and Physiotherapy wards in order to develop the medical laboratory in the center.  
  4. Recruitment of a qualified medical and administrative staff.

The Arab Health Center is approaching various health agencies and institutions, to develop partnerships that will flourish to benefit the Palestinian people. In addition to the cooperation with different faculties of Al-Quds University in order to conduct medical researches and studies, and to provide comprehensive practical training for students, particularly those studying Medicine, Health Profession, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Public Health.

  •  Developing physiotherapy department through the facilitation of physiotherapy, as well as refurbishing the department at Al-Quds University through the provision of modern equipment for the different related health problems.
  • Expansion of laboratory tests performed to include hormone and vitamins test.
  • Developing the X-Ray imaging ward by purchasing new digital devices.
  • Provision of improved educational materials.
  • Being recognized as a practical training center with learning supportive environment for students of different specialties such as Medicine, Dentistry, and Allied health Professions (physiotherapy, nursing, medical laboratory and medical imaging).
  • Cooperation with health profession faculties at Al-Quds University to conduct medical and clinical researches.
  • Improving the quality of primary health care services provided for the Palestinian community by the cooperation with various health agencies such as Palestinian Ministry of Health, Public and Private Health sectors, and other Non-governmental organizations.

Our Services

The AHC offers comprehensive primary care and diagnostic services 6 days a week from 8 A.M up to 4:00 P.M at the moment, and willing to be extended till 8:00 P.M in the very near future.

According to internal statistics, AHC provides services for 450-500 beneficiaries per month; they mainly include patients with Jordanian insurance, insured employees of various institutions such as Jordan Bank, Birzeit University, Jerusalem District Electricity Co. Ltd., and Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions.  Moreover, AHC is willing to offer insurance services for many institutions after the refurbishing and renovation of center.

Clinical Services :

  1. General Practice

 This clinic provides primary health care services such as treatment of injuries and wounds, and case referral to the concerned specialist after the diagnosis of chronic and acute diseases based on various diagnostic methods including medical family and personal history analysis, clinical examination and requesting the necessary diagnostic laboratory tests and imaging services.

In addition, the clinic provides preventive care services such as vaccinations and health education for different types of populations, along with certified medical reports for legal purposes.

  1. Internal medicine and Pneumology

The Internist of AHC is responsible for the diagnosis, primary-care treatment, or hospital referral for the necessary cases of medical conditions related to internal organs, especially diseases of the respiratory system such as bronchitis, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), pneumonia, and tuberculosis.

  1. Pediatrics

This clinic provides the proper environment and primary healthcare to treat acute and chronic medical problems for infants, children and adolescents. In addition to providing all the necessary vaccinations required for the proper development and growth, Pre-school checkups, as well as health education and medical counseling about the healthy lifestyles and practices to prevent diseases and conditions risky at this age.

  1. Neurology

The neurologist at AHC specializes in the diagnosis, primary-care treatment, or hospital referral for the necessary cases of some types of disease or impaired function of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, muscles, and autonomic nervous system as well as the blood vessels that relate to these structures.

  1. Otolaryngology

The otolaryngologist at AHC specializes in the primary management and treatment of patients with diseases and disorders of ear, nose, throat (ENT), and related structures of the head and neck such as sinus allergies, hearing problems in children, soreness of throat, pharynx and vocal cords, and other cases of ear tinnitus and dizziness.

  1. Orthopedics

The orthopedist at AHC specializes in diagnosis, primary treatment of problems of the musculoskeletal system, which includes: bones,  joints,  ligaments,  tendons, muscles,  and nerves and  hospital referral of needed cases.  

  1. Ophthalmology

The ophthalmologist at AHC specializes in the prevention and primary medical treatment of eye disorders, vision measurements for glasses (refraction), eye muscle exercises, and hospital referral of needed cases.  

  1. Urology (Nephrology)

This clinic deals with the diagnosis and primary treatment of disorders of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, and male reproductive organs. 

  1. Gynecology and Obstetrics

The gynecologist at AHC provides primary healthcare services to deal with gynecology and obstetrics such as uterine diseases, irregular menstruations, and medical complications during pregnancy.

The gynecologist also follows up pregnant women form the beginning to the end of their pregnancy to ensure a healthy fetus development and a good health status for the woman.

Dental Services

Dentists diagnose and treat problems with a patient’s teeth, gums, and other parts of the mouth. Dental Services at AHC include:

  1.  Operative Dental Services: 
  • Complete and Partial denture.
  • Cosmetic Composite.
  • Regular and Surgical Extraction.
  1. Dental Implants.
  2. Orthodontics.
  3. Dental Scaling and Polishing.
  4. Fixed Crowns and bridges.
  5. Root Canal Treatment.
  6. Pedodontics (Dental Services for Children): 
  • Pulpotomy

  • Pits and fissure sealants

Clinical Nutritional Services

Nutrition Care service at the AHC is a systematic process that includes Assessment, Diagnosis, Intervention and Monitoring and evaluation in order to deal with the following cases:

  1. Underweight or overweight.
  2. Nutrition Requirements through lifecycle (Infancy, Childhood, Adolescence, Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, elderly).
  3. Nutrition related medical conditions, such as:
  • Elevated or low blood pressure.
  • Types of Diabetes (Type I, Type II, and gestational).
  • Dyslipidemia.
  • Gout Disease (elevated Uric Acid)
  • Stomach and Intestinal ulcers.
  • Intestinal problems (Short Colon Syndrome, Irritable Colon Syndrome)
  • Constipation and diarrhea.
  1.  Medical Conditions:
  • Kidney problems.
  • Esophageal Reflux.
  • Thyroidal glandular problems.
  • Cystic Fibrosis.
  1. Food Intolerances and Allergies, such as: Lactose Intolerance and Celiac Disease.
  2. Vitamins and minerals deficiencies or insufficiencies.
  3. Sports nutrition.
  4. Vegetarian or vegan balanced diet.

Physiotherapy Services

A professional physical therapist conducts an examination, evaluation, diagnosis and proper physical intervention for the remediation of impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential.

Diagnostic and Imaging Services

  1. The Laboratory

Medical laboratory Technicians at the AHC collect samples from patients and perform tests to analyze body fluids(such as blood and urine), and other substances used for disease detection and diagnosis of diseases and medical conditions or for legal documentations such as issuing of traveling visas, driving licenses, marriage license .

The laboratory at AHC utilizes computerized system and automated equipment to increase the precision and accuracy and application of lab tests.

Our services include: Hematology, Biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, Serology, urine, and stool analysis.

However, we are considering extending our future services to include all the essays like hormones and serum vitamin levels, pathology and molecular biology examinations, which require expensive equipment. Therefore, the laboratory collaborates with other local laboratories to analyze the samples at the present.

  1. The Electrocardiogram tests (ECG)

The AHC performs this test to examine heart’s electrical activity for heart-related problems and diseases.

  1. X-ray Imaging Tests

X-Ray Imaging Services include:

  1. Conventional X-Ray Imaging  for:
  • Skeletal body survey.
  • Body soft tissues.
  1. Gastrointestinal Tract Imaging using Contrast media, by:
  • Barium swallowing with meal.
  • Sinogram.
  1. Ultrasound Imaging for:
  • Gynecology and Obstetrics.
  • Internal Organs.
  1. Panoramic X-Ray Imaging
  2. C-ARM for nonsurgical osteopathy and foreign body removal.
